Holiday Style Guide 2016 (for everyone)!

Holiday Style Guide for everyone

Hi everyone. I hope everyone is having a great week so far! For the fifth Holiday Blog post,  I wanted to to share with you, a Holiday Style guide in case you’re in a bit of a fashion dilemma looking at your wardrobe. If you’re anything like me, you’ll go through your closet and see a lot of clothes, but none that are necessarily “festive” enough for holiday get-togethers. If you need to pick up some last minute festive outfits or accessories, then here are some tips:

  • Wine (and not just the alcohol)

Wine will spice up anyone’s holiday season…but I’m not talking about the beverage here. I’m talking about the colour “wine”, which has been everywhere in stores during the late fall and winter seasons. Wine is a colour that’s not quite as traditional as bright red, but still gives a festive vibe. There are loads of sweaters, purses, shirts and accessories in this colour for both men and women. Also, the colour isn’t as daunting to wear as bright red may be for some, so you’ll have an easier time transitioning to this colour, and, there’s a strong likelihood you’ll wear it after the holidays are over.

Shop the trend at : Fossil, The Bay, Topshop, Asos (which makes you search burgundy for most of the wine options).

  • Velvet (velvet’s back…back again…velvet’s back…tell a friend)

As much as us 80’s and 90’s kids don’t want to admit it, we all wore velvet back in the day. I promise, if you look through any of my childhood pictures, there are many velvet numbers worn throughout the seasons ranging from velvet dresses, to turtlenecks, t-shirts and vests. Though none of us particularly looked forward to this day, I’d like to inform you, velvet is totally back in style. Velvet is everywhere as well this season, and you can pretty much get any piece of clothing, accessory, or shoe in the material. If you don’t necessarily want to wear an overwhelming amount of velvet, I’d suggest going for a little hair accessory, bow tie, or dress shoe.

Shop the trend at: Forever21Zara, and Spring.

  • Plaid (or Tartan!)

Everyone loves a good piece of plaid. Whether you go full out lumberjack, or have smaller subtle plaid prints (say that five times fast), it makes any outfit look a bit more wintery and festive. There are soooo many options for plaid out there. Of course, the classic button down is a great choice if you want to play it safe, but plaid trousers, ties, bows, dresses, and scarves are also available in stores and at online retailers.  And don’t be afraid to pair the plaid with playful textures (like velvet or denim) to get the most out of your look.

Shop the trend at: Old Navy –they possibly have the largest selection!

  • Gold (and all that glitters)

Gold and metallics are wonderful all year, but have an extra special feel around the holidays. With all the shimmering decorations and street lights, you may feel inspired to go a little bit more eye-catching in your colour choices. Gold and metallic accessories are a great finishing touches on any outfit (think of watches and cufflinks), but can also be used as entire outfit colours. A gold shirt or metallic shoes will look stunning in all types of lighting, and will make you shine like the star you are.

Shop the trend at: Fossil, Kate Spade, Aldo Shoes and Accessories.

  • Chunky Knits

Chunky knitted pieces are probably my favourite style tip I can give you this winter. In every store I’ve been into, there are piles and racks of chunky knitted sweaters, scarves and hats just calling my name, begging me to buy them–which I’ve politely had to turn down because I’m running out of closet space. Chunky knits are not only on trend, but they’re also quite practical for anyone who lives in places where it’s much colder. Chunky knits are available for both men and women, and pair well with virtually anything. If you’re looking to layer up, I’d suggest a collared shirt with a chunky knit overtop.

Shop the trend: Anywhere and everywhere will a wide selection of chunky knits for this time of year.

And there you have it! Five different style ideas for the season that will keep you on trend and festive. If you have any trendy tips, let me know below.
