FabFitFun Fall 2018 Box : Was It Worth It?

I received the FabFitFun Fall 2018 box back in September and now I’m sharing my thoughts on it. If you want to get your own Fabfitfun box for less, then check out the end of this post for savings codes* and info on upcoming Editor’s boxes and seasonal boxes (*Please note, this blog post contains affiliate links to FabFitFun. This means that if you make a purchase from the link, I will receive a small percentage of it*). Don’t know what Fabfitfun is all about? Check out this post that explains Fabfitfun.

Overall, out of all the boxes I’ve received from Fabfitfun, the fall 2018 box may be the most underwhelming, especially in comparison to last year’s box. So let’s begin with a breakdown of the box, item-by-item…

Items in the FabFitFun Fall 2018 Box

Something you should know, is that each FabFitFun box comes with “either” options—as in pick one or the other. If you’re a Select subscriber, you get to choose which item you’d like, but for regular subscribers like me, you select the option you prefer and you may receive your choice…or the other.

The ones in bold are the ones I got. Keep in mind, everything was received with shipping included for under $70CDN.

In Every Box

  • The Original BeautyBlender (retail at $20)
  • Glamglow Bubblesheet Oxygenating Deep Cleanse Mask 2-Pack (retail $18)
  • Simply Whimsical Tea Towels (retail $14.99)
  • Skin&Co Roma Blue in Capri (retail $22)

The “Either” Options (the ones in bold are the ones I received)

  • Vince Camuto Luck Tote in “Black” or “Red Desert” (retail $128) OR Crown Brush 6 Piece Brush Set in “Black + Rose Gold” or “Silver” (retail $75)
  • Alfred Teapot (retail $26) OR Alfred French Press (retail $22)
  • Catherine Malandrino Umbrella in “Red Floral” or “Black/White Floral” (retail $39.99) OR Cylo Cobra Bluetooth Wireless Earbuds in “Black” or “White” (retail $40)
  • Grown Alchemist Polishing Facial Exfoliant Pink Grapefruit & Claycomannan Extract (retail $67) OR Grown Alchemist Hydra-Repair Day Cream: Camellia & Geranium Blossom (retail $49) OR Grown Alchemist Hydra-Restore Cream Cleanser: Olive Lead & Plantago Extract (retail $49)
  • Farmacy Dew It All Total Eye Cream (retail $38) OR Touch In Sol Metallist Liquid Foil Lipstick Duo in “Penny” (retail $24.99) OR Cuccio Somatology Yogahhh! Detox Bath (retail $39.95)

There was also a Luna Rica Bar, which is a sponsored bonus item in some of the boxes. I guess I was lucky, because I received one!

The FabFitFun Box Items I Like

The Original BeautyBlender

I’ve never had an original BeautyBlender but I’ve owned plenty of knockoffs. I couldn’t understand what the hype was about this product, but now I do! In comparison to other beauty blenders out there, it’s so much better at doing its primary job—blending—without tugging at your skin. It also doesn’t have a strange manufacturing/chemical smell that knockoffs do.

Alfred Teapot

I was really happy to receive the Alfred Teapot because I drink tea every day, multiple times a day. I believe it’s meant to be a single serve teapot, but you could probably get two cups out of it if you drink in smaller cups. The inside of the teapot has a tea leaf infuser which is great for people who love to drink loose-leaf teas, but it can be removed if you prefer tea bags instead.

The one downside to the product is that the lid is quite sharp. I’ve cut my finger a few times on the lid so I think I may try to file it down to prevent future mishaps. Other than that, I love it! It keeps tea hot for an hour or two, so it’s ideal for keeping at a desk throughout the day.

Catherine Malandrino Umbrella in “Red Floral”

Finding an umbrella that can withstand strong winds and rain is a challenge. I’ve lost many umbrellas in the wind, or have broken the wire structures while trying to open and close them.

This umbrella feels sturdier than most and has soft handle to grip—ideal for commutes where you have to walk with an umbrella in hand for a while. There’s also a thick strap that closes around the umbrella along with a sleeve so you can store it when its not in use without it taking too much space.

The FabFitFun Box Items I Don’t Like

Vince Camuto Luck Tote in “Black” or “Red Desert”

When I saw the preview that showed a Vince Camuto tote as part of the Fall Fabfitfun box, I was extremely excited. Vince Camuto has a great reputation as a designer label for making products that are fashionable and have longevity. I’ve even had the priviledge of modeling Vince Camuto purses and evening bags. But this Vince Camuto tote fell below par.

The tote itself has a cute design and I give the company props for having a cruelty-free vegan leather bag. But, there are a lot of downsides. For one, the bag can’t hold too much weight. Example: I tried putting in my small Mac Retina laptop and I thought the handles would snap. The other, is that the inside of the bag lacks space—you can only throw a few items in there before it gets to heavy and spills out. The most bothersome thing, however, is the strange smell. I can only equate the smell to a kitty litter box. I’m hoping the smell eventually goes away so I can attempt to use the bag.

Cuccio Somatology Yogahhh! Detox Bath

I really wanted to like the Detox Bath a lot more than I do. The detox bath salt features a mixture of eucalyptus with sea salts, gogi berry extract and Greek Mastiha (a crystal-like food substance). In theory, it sounds really good, but the smell doesn’t bode well with me. It comes across a little too medicinal as opposed to relaxing. I disliked the scent so much that I had to cover it up with a Lush Bath Bomb.

Simply Whimsical Tea Towels

I wasn’t sure if I should put these under likes or dislikes. Truth is: I don’t hate them because they serve their function as tea towels. But what I dislike about the Simply Whimsical Tea Towels, is that there are so many tea towels out there that look just like this for the same price. They may even be cheaper at places like Winners and HomeSense.

I tend to like the Fabfitfun box for giving me items that I haven’t seen around or items that are more of a luxury. These tea towels? The verdict: Underwhelming.

The Luna Rica Bar

The Luna Rica Bar sounded so much better than it tastes. The bar tastes strongly of dates (which I dislike) and of nut butters. Nut butters are okay, but after a few chews of pastes and butters, you can feel like you’re eating mush.

Texture wise and taste wise, the Luna Rica bar isn’t a great fit for me, but it does have some nutritional value which makes people like them.

Items I haven’t Used Yet But Will!

Skin&Co Roma Blue in Capri

While I want to use this Skin&Co shower gel, I’m in the middle of finishing off a few other bath products. I didn’t want to open another product to add to the mix.

Glamglow Bubblesheet Oxygenating Deep Cleanse Mask 2-Pack

Again, I was super excited to see a Glamglow product in this Fabfitfun box. The reason I haven’t used this deep cleanse mask yet is because I’m a little wary of products with charcoal in it. Sometimes, my skin doesn’t love charcoal and I get fairly itchy. Once I work up the courage to try it, I will.

Items I Sadly Can’t Use

Grown Alchemist Polishing Facial Exfoliant Pink Grapefruit & Claycomannan Extract

I was very excited for the Grown Alchemist selections for the Fall Fabfitfun box, but I got the ONE product I was hoping I wouldn’t get. Unfortunately, I can’t use anything with Pink Grapefruit due to medications.

Was the Fabfitfun Fall 2018 Box Worth It?

Overall, I can’t say I was overly thrilled with the Fabfitfun Fall 2018 box, BUT I do love these boxes overall. I get products delivered right to my door that I wouldn’t necessarily buy on my own, and a lot of items I’ve never heard of before. It’s still a great way to treat myself to new lifestyle and personal style items without having to spend much.
