It’s a great way to help make a difference this year! Simply Earth has kindly gifted me the January Essential Oils box to review and share with you all!

If you’re confused about these “recipes”…They’re instruction cards on how to use essential oils, carrier oils (these oils let you apply the essential oils onto the skin) and a few household goods to create usable beauty and relaxation products. Most of the ingredients you’ll need for the recipies will come from the monthly box, but there are a few additional items you may need. Luckily, they do have Bonus Boxes that are FREE with your FIRST subscription box. Bonus Boxes come with these additional items : amber roll-on bottles, clear glass jars, Almond Carrier Oil, Coconut Carrier Oil, Solid Coconut Oil, and Beeswax.

What You SHOULD Know About Essential Oils

As I mentioned in a previous post: Essential oils of ANY kind are not regulated by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) because they shouldn’t be used as a singular effective treatment or cure for diseases or sicknesses, and are not meant to be ingested. Simply Earth has this disclosure on their website and doesn’t push their products as a way to treat illness. But because essential oils aren’t regulated in the same way that other cosmetics or drugs are, it’s important to READ THE INSTRUCTIONS on intended use and how much of each oil to use. Additionally, if you are looking for GC/MS (Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry) reports for each essential oil, you can find it on the website’s detail page for the bottle.

And with that disclaimer aside, onto January’s box!

First, if you’re wondering how much the box costs, it’s just $39.00 USD / $50.00 CAD! If you consider how expensive essential oils can be at this quality, it’s a great price to pay. Not only are you getting the 4 essential oils in the box, but you’re also getting accessories and recipes.

Simply Earth January Essential Oils: 4 Essential Oils in Each Box

If you get a January Essential Oil Recipe Box, you’ll receive these essential oils:

  • Ravensara 100% Pure Essential Oil (15ml) – smells sweet like Aniseed used in South Asian cooking
  • Bergamot 100% Pure Essential Oil (15ml)—comes from the citrus fruit, so it’s a very sharp and citrusy scent
  • Myrrh 100% Pure Essential Oil (5ml)—it’s a deep scent that reminds me of nature
  • Farewell Scars! 100% Pure Essential Oil (15ml) –smells like a mix of Lavender and Myrrh

And these recipe cards:

  • Skin Renewal Sugar Scrub
  • Confidence Diffuser Blend
  • Lip Rejuvenating Lip Balm
  • Calming and Uplifting Body Butter
  • Relaxing Textured Massage Bar
  • Skin Healing Booster Roll On

I have to be honest: I’m not HUGE fan of these essential oil scents, but I do appreciate them for what they do. I think the best one for me personally is the Ravensara essential oil because it can help alieviate stress. Plus, it smells like Aniseed, which reminds me of an Indian snack I ate as a kid.

Simply Earth Essential Oils Skin Renewal Scrub: Mixed Sugar and Oils

Skin Renewal Sugar Scrub

Scrubs are becoming one of my favourite beauty items, especially in the winter when my skin is particularly dry and flaky. The recipe was pretty straightforward—the only ingredient not included in the Recipe box was the sugar and the container for the scrub.

I altered the recipe a little bit to make a little less of the scrub than the card says, only because I wanted it to fit in the glass jar I had from the previous Bonus Box. The scrub isn’t my favourite scent, and sugar has a bit of a sticky texture, but it does a hell of a great job at scrubbing away dead skin. I’ve been using it on my hands because I have such bad dry skin and it’s made it feel much softer.

Simply Earth Essential Oils Scars Roll On Bottle with Recipe Blend

Skin Healing Booster Roll On

The roll-on essential oil recipes are super easy to make, which is awesome if you’re just getting into these recipe boxes. The Skin Healing Booster uses the Farewell Scars Essential Oil Blend and the Myrrh Essential Oil from Simply Earth, and Almond Carrier Oil, which allows application of the essential oils safely onto the skin.

The properties of the essential oils involved have been known to help in the process of wound healing, scar reduction and stretch mark reduction. While I typically use green tea products on my scars and blemishes, I’m excited to use the Farewell Scars Essential Oil Blend. So far, I have used it on a burn scar and an acne scar. The results are slow, but they do seem to be healing/fading away.
